OK all I really am going to be better about this. I am going to learn how to download videos and hopefully put up a video of us skiing a month ago in Feb. in Wv. We had such a blast!!
Bailey and Bria went to my sister's house for 5 days while we headed to Canaan Valley WV for 3 days of skiing and a morning of tubing before heading back home. Although Thursday was REALLY cold 16 degrees with a windchill of 6-8 we headed out for fun and excitement. The older boys remembered pretty quickly and Brandon did a great job picking it up. Saturday, although much more crowded, was by far our favorite day at a balmy42 degrees!!!
We really hope to be able to make this a yearly family tradition.
We returned from skiing only to start getting hit with illness after illness. All but Seth have been sick with something for the past month. I am happy to report that we finished the last dose of meds on Thursday and hope with warm weather on the horizon our illnesses are a thing of the past.
Soccer is just around the corner (monday actually) so life will pick up pace again, but how I love to be on the sidelines cheering for my kiddos. hope all is well and will talk again soon. sooner than last time hopefully:)

today is febuary seventh and we're about to eat dinner the wallace kids are coming over tonight and Mr. and Mrs. Wallace are going on a date we're going to play wii but seth's not allowed averyone else will be playing four player mario kart it's going to be a fun night for us kids by the way levi's writing this.

Happy New Year
Well hello everyone! One of our New Year Resolutions was to actually keep this up to date. Now the first step in that was for Hunter to teach me how to blog, change photos and maybe over time I'll even learn how to add photos!! watch out here I come:)
Seriously we'd like to be better and keep everyone up to date on the happenings in the Mayo house. I make no guarentees as to how often I'll get on, but hope to tell all who are interested how we are and what we are up to.
Are lives changed drastically last July when Dept of Social Services called us with a temporary placement.... well we still have our precious gift. She's 13 mo old now and we have watched her roll, sit up, crawl and now walk. The kids have thoroughly enjoyed her. She's a treasure and keeps us giggling with her new tricks and funny faces.
Life is semi slow at the moment with no sports to call us away. I've enjoyed having our evenings free. Wednesday night still finds us at church with Generations for the younger kids ( a family game and devotion time with Hunter) while Levi and I go down to Stepping Stones (youth group for 6-8th grade).
Life is fun and never very quiet here but we are thankful for the blessings of children and family.
I thought I'd give you a family poll.

Mother's Day
It's always amazing what kids will say. Bailey comes over today and tells me she lost her voice. I asked her when that happened and she said it happened last night when she was going to sleep. Then I asked where her voice went. She looked at me and simply replied, "In my hiney." Don't know where she got that from. But I suspect that her brothers have taught her that phrase.
Brandon is also one for funny statements. Today I had them at the grocery store and was talking to Sheri on the cell phone. When we got home, Sheri said, it sounded like you guys were taking over the store. Brandon said, "you could here that from our house?" He had a huge grin, so we think he was intentionally joking, but who knows....
May you all have a happy mother's day. Our kids gave Mom the gift she requested: cleaning her car out. Seth also cooked Sheri a delicious omlet for breakfast.

Valentine's Day and Bailey' Surgery
All of the romantics in the crowd will be excited to hear that Sheri's Valentine's Day gift was a printer. I typically don't buy Sheri jewelry, mostly because I think there are so many other practical things in life I could get her. The boys were excited because they got a new Wii game (Mario Party 8). I tried to get one that had some movement to it. Its okay, but I am still looking for games that offer a lot of motion rather than thumb and finger controls.
Bailey had surgery on February 22. This was really minor stuff. She needed tubes in her ears so the craniofacial doctor decided to fix up Bailey's nose while she was under anesthesia. He is a total perfectionist and Bailey's nose now has perfect symmetry. The changes were subtle but she looks great. The funniest story from the surgery came as we were about to take Bailey back to recieve the anesthesia by a gas mask. The anesthesiologist said Bailey might be giddy or scared, each kid reacts differently. After she left, Sheri and I were discussing what Bailey might look like if she were giddy. Bailey promptly asked when we would see the "kitty" back in the doctor's office. Bailey wasn't giddy, in fact she looked quite scared as she was going to sleep with the anesthesia. I was sure glad to see her awake after the surgery was complete. She now runs around the house and has already hit her nose once or twice despite the doctor's request that she not get banged up too much. The problem is that she has 3 older brothers......
I found out today that a wrist injury I sustained in early December may require surgery this summer to correct some ligament damage. I am certainly praying that I won't need surgery, but its possible that I may.
We are all looking forward to the early issuance of daylight savings this year. That will allow some evening outdoor hours as we will have light. The kids are looking forward to warm weather.

Christmas at The Mayo Household
As promised in our Christmas letter, I'm going to try and update out blog throughout the year. Christmas at our house was a load of fun and surprises. Levi received a RipStik (like a skateboard), Brandon received an indoor single person trampoline, Seth received an electric guitar, and Bailey received a doll house. Grandma and Grandpa gave them a Wii and Granny and PaPa gave them them some cool legos, a rocket car, a tea set, and a flag football set. I'm really trying to teach the kids not to be materialistic, but it is a struggle at Christmas. Our neighbors decided to take the money they would have spent on Christmas and give it to a charity (except for one small gift per person). That may be a good lesson for our kids in the coming years.....
I must admit, I was surprised at how much fun the Wii has become for adults. We recently had our Bible Study group over for a potluck dinner and the adults had more fun using the Wii than the kids.

Home for Good!!

After 15,850 miles and 112 days on the road, we have finally arrived home. It feels good to be home, but that means returning to work is just around the corner. Oh well, you can’t be on vacation forever…….or maybe that is called retirement. We averaged 142 miles per day and spent approximately 288 hours in the car (12 of the 112 day trip). In hindsight, that is probably more than we should have. We did feel a little pushed for some of the trip. On the other hand we sure covered a lot of ground. The next sabbatical will have to be on a beach in Fiji for 4 months straight! We probably won’t be posting to this for some time. We may turn it into the family blog….Thanks for everyone who followed our trip, we hope you got to vicariously enjoy it with us!
